The soakaways and planters have been designed to catch the run-off from roofs which normally enter our sewage system and can cause overflow and pollution of our river systems and oceans. The planters use a simple system to slow this down and as a result clean up our water systems.

The students, who attend the school’s gardening club were fascinated to learn what the SuDs do and the importance of nature-based solutions to manage flooding and run off and find a sustainable and environmentally friendly way of cleaning up our waterways.

We were delighted to welcome Elizabeth Hodgson from Groundworks South, a division of Southern Water to work with students to plant a variety of flowers and shrubs in five SuDs (Sustainable Drainage System) slow-drain planters distributed to the school.
