Pirate Ship for Reception children

Reception pupils said a big thank you to Richard Dixcey and Jewsons this week at the official opening of the new pirate ship for their playground.

The pirate ship was put there over the Christmas holidays, free of charge, thanks to Richard Dixcey, of Island firm Dixcey Landscapes. The materials were generously provided at no cost, from Jewsons and Richard Dixcey spent his Christmas break building the most amazing structure for our children.

He came up with the idea while carrying out work at the Winchester Road site. Richard said,

When we were down here one of the teachers showed me a picture of a boat and asked for me to quote for me buying and installing it. I looked at it and thought it's far too small for the kids here so I sat down that night and I drew out a rough sketch.

It was then that Richard approached Jon Hayward, manager of the Newport branch of Jewsons, who kindly supplied materials free of charge.

Jon said:

I just thought it was a great opportunity to get involved.I know Richard and have a great relationship with him so it was an ideal opportunity to put something back into the community.
Nicola Taylor, Early Years Leader at The Bay said,
It was an absolutely overwhelming surprise and I was really touched by the generosity in making the dream of the children come true. It's a huge hit and it's going to be a wonderful learning opportunity for the children. We can use it to do our phonics, our maths so it's going to be an amazing, amazing asset.

Thank you so much to Richard and to Jewsons, we are incredibly grateful for your generosity.
