Creative Careers Week
Creative Industries are the UKs fastest growing sector and account for 1 in 14 of all jobs across the UK economy - i.e over 3 million jobs!
The last week of term saw The Bay students enjoying an abundance of opportunities in the Islandwide Creative Careers week. This pilot project, organised by the IOW Cultural Education partnership, aimed to 'shine a light on, not only what jobs exist within the creative industries but what could be possible in pursuing a creative career, both off and on our Island.
Taking part in ten events, including
- Creative Careers Taster day at the Riverside Centre
- Careers in Physical Theatre
- Brave Island Careers Forum
- Careers in Music
- Careers in Creative Design
- Architecture and Model-making
- Boatbuilding and Design
- Fashion, Design and Business
- Sustainability and Fashion
....no less than 240 students across all year groups gained invaluable knowledge and experience across the presentations, workshops and seminars. It was brilliant to see so many ex students and teachers delivering sessions too, inspiring the next generation.
Mia in Year 9 enthused to organiser Clare Paul, 'this is absolutely amazing' and thanked her for letting her be involved.
Thank you to Mrs Griffiths and all the staff who made this event possible, and parents who could support challenges to transport.
Our next big event is on the horizon - we would love to see as many students in year 9 and 10 taking part in this fabulous opportunity in the National 'Take Your Child to Work Day' on Thursday 25th April
All students will be encouraged to take part in our drive to increase work-related learning opportunities but in the meantime, please see our website for details.
