Careers Week - w/c 16th October
Students from Years 8-11 had an opportunity to listen to a variety of career talks this week, linking their current learning to their future’s preparation. The event was designed to inform, enthuse and cultivate curiosity in our students. Face to face interactions with real working people gives our young people the chance to ask questions and learn more about the opportunities available to them.
Key messages were clear throughout the week:
- The Labour market is constantly changing.
- It is increasingly common for us all to have several jobs throughout our working careers and the promotion of the need to develop a wide range of transferable skills became a common theme throughout the talks.
We started the week with a celebration of students in Years 8 and 9 who had achieved their Pixl Edge accreditation. The Pixl Edge Personal Development Programme develops and accredits students with the personal attributes that are essential for future employment and life: leadership, organisation, resilience, initiative, communication. The apprentice qualification is not an easy qualification to gain and requires commitment and resilience over time, alongside the tenacity to plan, do and review each challenge. All students were presented with a certificate and will receive a Pixl Edge badge to go on their blazer. Parents were also invited to the celebration.
