Bay CE School students take lead roles in the Isle of Wight Youth Council

Three students from The Bay CE School have been successful in securing top roles in the Isle of Wight Youth Council. Each candidate made a video to convince young people to vote for them.

Aydin Gumus in Year 10 was voted into the role of Youth MP. Oliver McClean in Year 10 is Deputy Youth MP and Fin Diffey (Year 10) is Vice Chair of the Isle of Wight Youth Council.

The Youth MP for the Isle of Wight represents young people in the UK Youth Parliament. They attend council meetings and get to go to London and debate in the House of Commons. They tell the government what young people care about and what changes they want to see locally and nationally. Aydin, Oliver and Fin are keen to represent young people and improve their life experiences living on the Isle of Wight and encourage young people to get in touch with them about anything they would like them to raise at the Youth Council.

 On his appointment Aydin said

I would like to congratulate all other candidates for their extraordinary campaigns, and thank everyone who has expressed faith in my manifesto. I look forward to representing you, and working with the amazing members of the IW Youth Council to make the Island a better place to be for young people.

Please interact with us, give us your opinions and get involved then we can support you and get your voice heard.

I am really proud of the students, they worked incredibly hard to put together their manifestos, to make videos which were shared with tutors and to talk to students and staff about what they want to see change on the Island. I am sure these students are future leaders.
